Bitter Sweet

I'm going to have a hard time writing this one. I let one get away.

Started third in the qualifier behind a very slow car. On the start, I cautiously went into turn one, even with that, I ran over the car in front on me. As I watch the field go by me on the outside, I finally swung outside in fifth place. It didn't take me long to being picking off the leaders one by one. I began to work over the first place car and was able to get underneath him several times. On the last lap, out of turn four, I made a valiant effort but came up inches short at the finish line in second place.

We started fifth in the feature. I knew we had a good piece, so my expectations were high. It took no time at all to move up a few positions and when the yellow fell on lap two, I was in second place. On the restart, I motored into the lead coming out of two. Once in the lead I was being pressured from behind lap after lap. I had several side by side battles and lost the lead around mid-race. I was now the aggressor. As I worked over the leader, we began several more side by side battles. Then it happened, while diving underneath the leader coming out of turn two, the car broke loose and I went around with three laps left. Now I had to start last in the 12th position with only three laps left. Could I get a top ten, maybe a top five, nope, even better? On the restart, I quickly moved to the outside and past four cars. On the last lap another four, to finish fourth. But wait there's more. The third place car was DQ'ed for ruff riding and we wound up back on the podium in third place.

A little disappointing because we probably should have won the race, but we were on the podium after a late race incident. I guess that's all good.

See you all next week
