Goff Motorsports - We're on the fast track...
05/17/13
The ups and downs of racing
What a crazy night. We started off as the fastest car during the first practice session, but the car wasn't quite right. We made a couple of adjustments and oops, that didn't work.
We went back to the original setup for the qualifier. Off we went. We didn't go very far before we were involved in a wreck. After watching the video several times, I really can't explain how it happened. I went to the outside of the car in front of me and it appeared my car got little loose. As a car was passing me underneath, my left front wheel touched his right rear wheel. The contact was minimal, but the damage was severe. I was out of the qualifier.
The team worked very hard to get the car back together, replacing most of the suspension parts on the left front. Minutes before the start of the feature event, the team completed the repairs. Obviously, they did their best on the setup.
Because several people were involved in the wreck during the qualifier, we actually qualified. We were scheduled to start sixth. As we pulled onto the track, the second place starter didn't show up so our line moved up, putting me in the fourth starting position. Some things just work out.
Even though we were unsure if the car was going to handle very well after the wreck, we didn't waste any time moving to the front. On lap one we passed the third and second place cars and by the start finish line of lap one we were underneath the leader. By turn one, I was in the lead. Who would have expected that? Unfortunately the car was very tight, how long could I hold off the field. I had a great battle with the 44 car, but eventually lost the lead to him. I continued in the second place until another great battle with the 47 ensued. I was eventually passed on lap 15 and settled into third. Because of the long green flag run, the three of us had, as Matt Butler would say, “they have a landing strip lead on the rest of the field”. We finished third. No too bad after all the trouble we had.
I guess if you put everything in perspective, this was a great night. On the podium after a wreck.
Special thanks to the team for getting me back on the track. Nice work guys.
See you all next week.
What an honor
I was awarded the Most Popular Driver for the SK Light Modified division during the Stafford Motor Speedway awards banquet. This prestigious award is very special to me.
There are two reasons I compete each week. One is my passion for the competition and the other is my fans. Each week I look forward to seeing and talking to all my fans as they enter the speedway. It's also great to meet new fans and first time speedway visitors. There is a very special moment when you look into the eyes of a child and some adults and see their excitement building.
I am honored to receive this award and appreciate all my fans and supporters who took the time to vote for me. Thank you very much.
I'd to thank all our sponsors for their contributions. These companies help our team throughout the season and make it all possible. Please use their services when possible.
