Jay's racing career began in 1977 when he built and drove cars to compete at the Riverside Park , Stafford and Thompson Speedway's. His skill and dedication led him to several victories during the 1980's in the highly competitive Street Stock and late model division. In order to fulfill the needs of his growing family, Jay put away his driving gloves at the end of the 1989 season to concentrate on his Information Technologies career. But, drivers never make good spectators, so when his son Aaron began driving in the DARE stock division, it rekindled Jay's desire to be involved at the competitive level. Jay made his return to racing in 2003 as crew chief for the Goff Motorsports #81 Monte Carlo . It turned out to be a successful comeback for the retired driver as his coaching and technical expertise kept the 81 car in the hunt for victory throughout the 2003-2006 seasons.

In 2007, when Aaron decided to join the Willie Hardie Racing Team, Jay followed and assisted the team. Although Jay enjoyed working on the racing team, a rekindling of his desire to drive surfaced. “Wouldn't it be great to compete against my son”? About mid-season, when an opportunity to purchase a SK Light Modified surface, Jay jumped at the opportunity and began piloting his own #07 SK Light Modified, late in the season.

In 2008, Jay piloted the Jordan Craig Machinery #07 SK Light Modified to a very respectable sixth place in the championship point standings. Jay also finished second three times and had 6 top fives and 11 top tens out of 17 races.

Jay will pilot the #07 SK Light Modified again in 2009. Jay set the bar pretty high for 2009. His objectives are to finish every race, win multiple races and have a strong run for the SK Light Modified Championship.
