Goff Motorsports - We're on the fast track...

October 11th – 2008 season comes to an end with another podium finish

Check out our new pictures on photos page 4 and 5

What a way to end the 2008 season. The weather was great, the competition fierce and another podium finish.

I want to start off by thanking all my sponsors, team mates and family. Without them, none of this would have been possible. The financial backing from our sponsors allowed us to come to the track with a competitive race car every week. Thank you; Jordan Craig Machinery, Rob B's Plumbing Service and Personal Touch Landscaping. As you know, no one can do it alone. With out Troy and Brian helping me every week, I could not have had the season I did. I also want to thank Aaron and Dan who helped me on occasion. Every little bit helps. And of course my family, my wife Pat, daughters Robyn and Kristen, and my son Aaron.

The final race of 2008.

We started off Friday with an all day practice session. We decided to try some new setups on the car. As the day progressed, it didn't look like our changes were working. We went back to our old setup for the last practice session and our lap times were better.

With only one practice on Saturday, we needed to hit the setup on the first try. We did. For the first time in 2008, we broke the 19 second barrier. We were now poised for our qualifying event. Our objective for qualifying was to get ourselves into a qualifying position and save the car for the feature. The car was fast in qualifying. We had another 19 second lap and qualified for the feature. We were ready for the main event.

Starting in the ninth position and a lot of fast cars in front of Jay, we knew moving to the front was going to be a challenge. The car started off a little loose which made it difficult just to hold onto our position. The car began to come in about the mid way point of the race. Now we were ready to make our move. We began passing car and moving to the front. With four laps to go, Jay was in third place. Starting third on a restart, we knew this was a great opportunity to challenge for the lead. With three laps to go, Jay moved into second place. Although Jay was able to pull along side the leader for the win, he couldn't make the pass and settled for a second place finish.

What an exciting year. We far exceeded our expectations. Our goal for 2008 was to be a consistent top 10 finisher. We did that.

Our finishing stats; Sixth place in the championship point standings, 3 second place finishes, 6 top fives and 11 top tens out of 17 races. We had only one race where we finished out of the top ten when running. We had one major wreck and if it wasn't for four flat tires caused by incidental contact, we probably could have challenged for the championship. What a great year.
